TROTT LITTLEJOHN

From gravel pit to community haven

What makes this place special?
Once a gravel staging area, this community space is being transformed into a place for recreation, native plants, pollinators, composting, and learning. The site now hosts a community garden space, exercise stations, and habitat restoration projects, demonstrating the impact people can have when they work together.

What challenges does it face?
Much of the soil was heavily disturbed during decades of public works activity, and invasive plants remain a constant challenge.

What islanders are doing
Volunteers are restoring the landscape with native plants, pollinator gardens, and knotweed removal. Their work demonstrates simple approaches that homeowners can use in their own yards.
