New and Ongoing Projects

Ongoing Projects

  • helped found the Community Garden and create the native plants demonstration garden on Seashore Avenue.

  • collaborated with the City on the acquisition of artist-decorated recycle containers, “No Butts” containers and Big Belly solar trash compactors.  Our volunteers empty these containers.

  • cosponsored (with Window Dressers and Brackett Memorial UM Church) four annual “community builds” of 1,200 energy efficient storm window inserts for about 80 island households.

State and City officials meet with Peaks residents and other interested parties to discuss possible interventions to pursue.

New Projects

PEAT has been awarded two grants:

  1. $25,000 from the Casco Bay Estuary Partnership. These funds will be used to formulate a working group to tackle action items identified in the Peaks Island Assessment.

  2. $10,000 from the Island Institute. These funds will be used to explore the possibility of employing nature-based solutions to tackle damage caused by flooding and erosion on the backshore.
